30 Years of Innovation.

Today, Invacare is the global leader in the worldwide market for medical products and services used in the home.  Invacare designs, manufactures and distributes an extensive line of innovative home and long-term care medical products and services that promote recovery and active lifestyles. The company has 4,600 associates and markets its products in approximately 100 countries around the world.

The history of Invacare, as it is known today, began in the late 1970s. At that time, Technicare, a Cleveland-based medical-device manufacturer, was purchased by Johnson & Johnson. They decided to sell the wheelchair division known as Invacare.

A. Malachi Mixon III, who worked as a vice president of marketing at Technicare, organized a small group of investors, including J.B. Richey, to raise the $7.8 million needed for the purchase.

With determination and impeccable timing, Mixon and his team began to build a company that would do much more than simply manufacture and sell home health care products. Using Mixon’s “Yes, you can” philosophy, the company, through its products and services, would help consumers achieve a better quality of life, no matter their disability. Since purchasing the company, Mixon has steered Invacare to worldwide leadership in the home health care market and helped guide and shape the industry through pivotal legislation.
